If you are looking to change and improve the look of a lawn chair instead of replacing it all together, this is an easy and economical way to breathe new life into your patio. Instructions to paint old metal lawn chairs: clean lawn chair completely wiping it with a clean, damp cloth. Apply TSP liquid to a clean cloth and wipe the chair completely. Let it dry. Spread newspaper on the floor. It is best to do this project out to avoid making a mess. Cover any areas you do not want painted with masking tape.

Set the chair on newspaper and spray the chair with spray paint primer. Apply a thin layer and let it dry completely. Apply 5-10 thin layers of primer. Spray the old metal lawn chairs with a spray coat of paint to metal. Allow the first coat to dry before applying the next. Keep the application of a coating on a time until the desired appearance is achieved.
